MORRIS ATLAS, a founding partner, has practiced law in South Texas for over fifty years. He has experience in litigation involving a vast array of legal issues and until the last year was the managing partner of the firm.
He received his B.B.A. in 1949 from the University of Texas and his L.L.B. in 1950 from the University of Texas School of Law.
Morris has been an active leader in the community for many years and has served in many capacities, such as: Board of Regents of Pan American University, Board Member 1965 - 1976 and 1972 Chairman; The University of Texas Chancellor's Council, Chair 2001; Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, 1977 - 1990; Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Board of Visitors; Texas Regional Bancshares, Inc., Board of Directors; Texas State Bank, Board of Directors; Texas Senate, Special Counsel: Civil Justice Reform, 1987 and Worker's Compensation and D.T.P.A., 1989; Texas-Mexico Bar Association, Board of Directors 1994 - 1996; The University of Texas Law School Foundation, Trustee 1978 to the present, Vice President 1988 - 1993, Life Member 1990, and President 1993.
Morris has received numerous awards and honors over the years including: The University of Texas Law School Faculty Award, 1988; The University of Texas Ex-Students' Association's Distinguished Alumnus Award, 1993; The University of Texas School of Law Alumni Association's Outstanding Alumnus Award, 1997; Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce's Border Texan of the Year, 1991; Rio Grande Council of the Boy Scouts of America's Distinguished Citizen, 1995; Easter Seals Rio Grande Valley's Humanitarian of the Year, 1999; Texas Bar Foundation's Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer, 2001; Anti-Defamation League's 2002 Karen Susman Jurisprudence Award with his son, Houston attorney, Scott J. Atlas; and was named one of the 102 Legal Legends by Texas Lawyer in 2000 and a Texas Super Lawyer for 2005, Law & Politics/Texas Monthly magazines.
