    GARY GURWITZ, the managing partner of ATLAS & HALL, L.L.P., has over 40 years of litigation experience representing corporations, banks, insurance companies, medical professionals, and individuals in cases involving a wide variety of legal issues, including, commercial and business law, trusts, class actions, toxic tort, medical and legal malpractice, product liability, and personal injury.

    Gary received his B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1958; his J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1959 where he was Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review.

    Gary was admitted to the Texas bar in 1959 and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; the United States Supreme Court; and the Supreme Court of Texas.

    Over the years Gary has actively supported the University of Texas and its law school. He is a member of The Littlefield Society, the President's Associates, the Executive Committee of the Chancellor's Council, the Longhorn Foundation, and the University of Texas School of Law Dean's Roundtable and Dean's Council. In the past, he has served as a Director of the University of Texas School of Law Alumni Association and as a District Director for the University of Texas Ex-Students' Association Council.

    Gary has participated in many State Bar activities and committees and was a member of the Board of Directors from 1984 - 1987. For many years he has been a member of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct and Vice Chairman from 1996 to the present.

    His membership and participation in professional organizations include the following: Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers; Sustaining Life Fellow, Texas Bar Foundation; Fellow, American Bar Foundation; Member, International Association of Defense Counsel; Member, American Counsel Association; Member, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys; Member, Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and Member, Vice President of The Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism. He also served as a former Vice President of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel; Past President of the Hidalgo County Bar Association and Past Director of the Texas Rural Legal Aid Association.

    Gary was named a Texas Super Lawyer for 2003 - 2009, Law & Politics/Texas Monthly.

    In addition to his professional activities, Gary is active in numerous community affairs. He has served on the Board of Trustee for the South Texas Community College from 1993 to the present and is a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also is Vice-Chairman, University of Texas-Pan American School of Business Administration, Business Advisory Council and a member of the Board of Directors of Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation. He is the recipient of the American Heart Association, Upper Valley Division, Heart of Gold Award, 1993 and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Humanitarian of the Year Award, 2004.
